I know it's kind of elementary, but i see all these posts with people's boots guages and am wondering what it's for. Is if for after you install some aftermarket part? Or can it be put on a stock Audi? Just curious

 

You have a turbo in your car (if you have a 1.8t). The turbo generates boost. The gauge measures how much boost your turbo is producing - allowing you to diagnose boost/vacuum leaks, etc...

around 7-8lbs is stock for the k03 i'm pretty sure
