Default What do you make of this a4

I went and test drove this 1998(.5?) a4 1.8t today -
http://www.freemanmotor.com/portland...3184,3074,3192

High mileage, and carfax shows it missed a couple services in the last 4 years. I was going to buy it on the spot, because it ran great right there - but to make sure I didn't get bit in the ***, I waited a night. I was hoping to could get some advide on whether or not this is a good deal, or if i'm getting ripped. You guys seem to know a lot better than me!

well i bought mine with 135k on it and havent had any unexpected problems, but at that mileage you should get a solid answer on whether or not it had the timing belt changed the second time. cause they are supposed to be changed every 70k or so. otherwise body is a little rough interior looks mint. and thats not a bad price either

The half model year on 98's isn't important at all, check the engine for sludge and see when the timing belt was done. At that mileage, it should have been changed twice now.

Yeah, find out about the timing belt. I would also make buffing out that scuff on the front bumper part of the deal.

And yeah, that doesn't really seem like such an amazing bargain. I bought my '99 2.8Q Tip Avant with 86k miles for just under $8,000 and it included ALL maintenance records.

That's alot of miles man. Try to get them down to 5k or so. Oh, and those hideous wheels need to be replaced ASAP.

They should definatly be able to do better on the price, i just bought my 99.5 2.8q manual with 90k for 52000, all matienence records included from day one. I would keep looking, there are definatly better cars out there. You just have to be patient.
