I am starting to think that my 2001 A4 1.8T has some knock problems.

When going between 60-80mph and in 5th gear and I mash the gas to speed up hard, I can hear a vibration noise (that has gotten louder) coming from the general direction of the engine area.

I really hope this isn't knock, since I bought this car used and it has an APR chip in it.

I brought the car into the dealership and they said that the car was working to factory specs.

So...can someone tell me what knock sounds like in an A4? I know people say it sounds like a knock, but since the engine is going so fast, I would think it'd be more like a woodpecker than some guy knocking on a door.

 

sure its not the turbo your hearing? You are chipped after all.

see...that's what i don't know. i thought turbo sounds more like a whirl....this is like...vvvvvvvvvbbbbbbbbbbbb (as close to typing out a vibrating noise as i can).

i wouldn't be sad at all if it was the turbo though

 

oh, and i would think if it were turbo, that it would sound approximately the same in each gear, but this just comes around 3000rpm in 5th gear during a hard accel

 

Do your rpm's do anything during this sound???

 

not that i can see...it just goes up normally...but i'll pay attention next time and check for sure

 

How does that sound go was it vvvvbbbbb or vbvbvbvbvbvb...and your turbos still goin whiiiiiiiiir? hmmm...
