Tap, or bump the engine over with the key, or manually turn over the engine with a 24mm 12 point socket on the crank.
Yeah the sender is on the back of the oil filter housing/cooler, (the big thing the oil filter is screwed to
)its a 24 mm deep well socket to get that out or you can cut a 24 mm wrench in half to get it out, then thread in an oil gauge, if you can find one.
What your listening for when you dis-connect the chain tensioner is a change in sound frequency.

Thanks. Where is the electrical connection for the cam chain tensioner? If its under the valve cover, how am I supposed to disconnect it with the engine running? Or do you mean the camshaft position sensr?
No you can see it, look at the very back of the engine where the tensioner is, at the end of the cylinder there should be a connector with a metal spring release.

Maybe Im blind. All Im seeing is the coolant flange, the combi valve/mounting bracket, ECTS,and thats about it. I dont have my repair manual on this computer or id search in it. Got a pic?
