Can anyone tell me what this cap like apperatus is and what it does? Also why it is leaking my EFFING antifreeze all over the place?

Sorry for the shitty photo....really not in the mood for creating a photobucket account tonight.....wicked mad about this car. This audi has been nothing but trouble since i bought it...and i still owe a boat load on it!!! GRRRR, k its a b6 1.8T, the cap u see there is in the middle top of the photo...seems to be on the coolant line. Not sure where it is leaking, but all around there is wet with coolant.

Its the regulator for the valve cover venting back to the intake. There is only air and oil vapers in it, no coolent. If your leaking coolent, you might have a bigger problem

Do you know what a check valve is? Check valves look nothing like that and fluid doesnt pass through check valves anyways.

yea i know what a check valve is... and for our cars they are smaller and have the inlet outlet inline with the bulge... but it looked like a bigger and different version to me... excuse me for the mistake... not sure how that helps him diagnose his problem but you probably had a bad day at work.

I have a 2.8L but to take an educated guess I would say its the hot water valve for the heater core. And yes I have seen them go bad and leak on many makes of cars.
