hi there, new to the forums, seems like a good place. so i have a 2005.5 a4 2.0T quattro with a few mods (lowered, rims, tint) and two nights ago it got keyed all up in my driveway. no idea who it was. i'm talking doors, trunk, roof, the whole shebang. so i take it today to see if i can get an aftermarket alarm installed (stock alarm didn't so much as make a peep, and these guys must have been working at the car a good 15 minutes), the guy tells me that i need a module as the CAN-BUS will not allow an aftermarket alarm to be put in, or something along those lines. will set me back 510 bucks to get it done. is this how it is, or should i already start looking for a place with an enclosed garage? anybody have any stories of their aftermarket install on the B7? it has the RNS-E with nav, don't know if that makes a difference. thanks in advance.

yeah, it looks like the insurance will cover it. took it to different places to price shop for the alarm, everybody said the same thing, that it was the worst thing done to a car they've ever seen. everybody also asked if i had a psycho ex-girlfriend, but all my psycho ex-girlfriends live somewhere else
