Hello all,

I am obviously new here and in the market to purchase a B6 A4 1.8t however I have been searching and reading about this CVT transmission but haven't found the answer Im looking for. I was wondering if there was a particular year they started putting these into the B6 models cause I am looking to get one with the normal tiptronic transmission instead of the CVT. Thanks.

the B6 always had the CVT as an option it had it from its first year 2002
but rememeber a CVT has 6 gear settings and the TIPtronic has 5 gears
but why not just get a manual

 

Ah I see, so is there anyway to tell from looking at the shifter at all? or basically would you have to drive one to see wether it has the 6 gear CVT settings or the TIPtronic 5 gears? I was lookng for a manual but just having trouble finding one. My main concern was it handling one of the chip upgrades.

 

yea the only way is to drive the car and shift it to tip mode and see how many gears
but CVT IS ONLY ON FWD so if u get QUATTRO u dont have to worry
yea the earlier CVTs are weak but i hear they improved the CVT but i dont know which years
but a TIP can handle a chip easly

 

The 6 gear CVT, has the Multitronic rather than the TIP, I have a 2002 A4 3.0 with Multitronic, not bad at all. I really like it
