Default Wheels size

I want to upgrade the wheels of my A4 '99. Have now 16' and I want to go to 17" or 18'.
Could someone tell me what is the max size that can be mounted on a A4 '99. And if you have some pics that will be kool.

For the tires I will probably go with some 40ZR or 45ZR...

Thx.

19" will fit on a B5, but the wheels look too big with most of the wheel styles.
18's are a good match.

tires on my 18x8.5 wheel is a 235/40/18

18's are nice, especailly when the car is lowered. If you get 18x8.5 and a 235 tire and if you eventually lower your car you may come to rubbing isuses and would have to roll the fenders. I have 18x8 with a 225 tire and i have a little less than a 1 finger gap up front and i dont rub.

How do these 235/40 tires affect the ride, with normal springs/suspensions.
Does it get any bumpier ???

Thanks guys. 18x8.5 wheel with a 235/40/18 sounds really cool... so I'll shop for something this week and I'll post some pics when I'll have the wheels on the car.... I don't think I'm gonna lower it but I am thinking about a body kit just to have the lower effect...
