Default Where to have clutch replaced

HI, I have 1998 A4 2.8 Quattro. Original clutch has 170,000 miles and although not slipping it engages about 1/2 inch from release point. That being said i am planning on haveing a new clutch installed. Considering either Audi dealer or Aamco to do the work.
Audi is $250 more expensive for the work. Any comments on choosing Audi dealer versus Aamco. Also typical cost of clutch replacement would be nice to know
thanks
Terry

I'd go for the dealer. Although replacing the clutch isn't that bad, I'd be worried about Aamco. I'd rather have someone familiar with Audi's working on mine. When I got mine done, the clutch/flywheel/throw out bearing was about $1000.00 and the install about $600.00.

you ahd it done at a dealer?

If you go to a tranny shop like AAMCO they will do a fine job. dont worry about it. they do five clutch jobs every day.
