I've been looking to get an 02 or 03 a4 for a couple months now. I've noticed something in most of them that bothers me a little bit - the power window buttons all seem to be wearing off - revealing a white surface underneath. Is this a common problem? I would have expected better quality parts from audi. Is there an easy fix, or would I just have to buy new buttons - and what is the cost?

It is a known issue and common problem to Audi. My '04 A4 had the same problem and got replaced under warranty.

 

Ok, great, that's what I was wondering - whether the 50k warranty would cover it.
