Window Tint Question
So I'm getting the windows on my audi tinted tomorrow. It's a black a4 3.0, 2002 (b6 style). State law in Mississippi is no darker than 35%, and I was talking to the shop owner, he said that charcoal would be the best look for my car. I'm getting a pretty good deal at $179, but I can't remember the tint manufacturer at the moment. Any suggestions or comments? Should I be looking for anything specific when they are done, quality wise? Anything is helpful, as you can I'm new to posting on the forum, though I've been reading it for awhile. I don't know much though, so thanks!

you could get away with 20%. thats what mine is at and the cops never mess with me about it (and ive been pulled over a LOT). and law in FL is 35% on the front windows 20% on the back. does your a4 have the fin antenna or is the antenna in the back glass? mine was in the back glass so i had to get a special type of tint that doesn't interfere with radio signals.
The antenna is in the glass, so I'll have to talk with the guy tomorrow to make sure it's a compatible type of tint. As far as the %, is 35% not going to look good? Or is it just the "darker is better" argument? Just curious because I don't think he will do lower than 35%, and I don't want it if it won't look good, it's just I have no idea what the different shades look like, I can never find comparison pictures.
they should have a bunch of comparison sheets at the tint shop. and 35 is alright, you can just see inside pretty easily. i like 20%. its harder to see inside and looks nicer, but isn't too dark to where vision is affected
$179 bucks?geez thats kinda hefty no?...i got my tints done profesionally for $60 bucks...and theyre 5%.I live in Fl and 5 is way under the legal limit...lol i got a citation for them the other day...$89.50...but I will never take my limo tints off!!!
179 is too much for regular tint. for the more expensive tint that doesn't interfere with the radio it should cost you 150. just make sure you get a guarantee on the work in case it starts to peel and bubble.
I ran into this same issue when I lived in VA. It basically comes down to this: how 'ricey' does your A4 look? I met with a few car clubs in Va Beach and there was a clear correlation between how much the guys got pulled for stupid ****, and how the car looked/sounded. The more subdued cars never had any problems, but the lower, louder, kitted, ground glow cars always got heat.
With that said, I have never heard of anyone being ticketed for too dark tint(which we all had), just warnings, or tickets that tell you to change the tint by such a date to avoid fines.
Also, if the tint is slightly gunmetal/mirrored, that helps mask the darkness. And, I had a buddy who worked at a tinting shop there, and he got an initialed DOT sticker on his drivers side rear window that was a sort of 'get out of dark tint free' thing. But I don't know how he got it or whatnot. I just know that if you have one-eventhough the tint is too dark, its legal.

. But I figured $179 was decent, hope I'm not being taken...
