Since most of you guys are expeirenced with your cars. I was just wondering how long have some of you guys have your cars modded. And how often do problems occur? How is the upkeep? I just need an idea of what ill be getting into if i mod my car.

We have had ours for 4 years. Love it, but my service manager says it's been in the shop 23 times. Thank god for the extended warranty. Would not change a thing though.

Reason why i asked is because i talked to a mechanic that works on imports and i told him i wanted to chip my car and he was like if u dont do it correctly u could blow up your engine. And 1.8t are not worth modding but the 2.8 would be. He also mentioned that the 1.8t are not made to handle that much boost and the reliability of cars that mod their car are a life expectancy of 1-6months. he basicaly said the only mod i should do is cold intake and new exhaust. What do you guys think?

started modding my a4 3 1/2 years ago hasnt had too many problems, mostly control arms and tie rods. good tuning companies offer warranties so if an aftermarket part goes bad they give you a new one pro bono. this happened to me twice maybe three.

That guy has no idea what the fvck he's talking about. You will not lose hardly any reliability with a chip. Many ppl have 100k on a chipped 1.8T. You will lose some reliability with a big turbo kit. Your mechanic is a complete moron!

that mechanic sounds like a fool, i bet he works on lawnmower and weedwacker motors. 1.8t has trillions of aftermarket parts out there....how many does 2.8? yea not anywhere near as many.
