Yet Another pround new A4 owner!
Hi everyone,
New to these forums but iv'e probably read every single thread over the last few days while debating whether or not to buy an A4. I finally decided and bought it yesterday, car will be delivered today and I just cant wait!!
2002 A4 quattro 1.8T
Manual trans
Dolphin grey
Sports package and sunroof and all that... no Bose audio tho
78000km (35k miles)
So here are my questions, I'm a total newb when it comes to modding a car:
-Say I get the GIAC chip and then (God forbid) I crash the grey beauty, is there ANY way the insurance people can detect the chip has been tampered with and void my insurance?
-Someone posted in a chip discussion that it's not worth getting a car chipped unless you also get a DV (diverter Valve?), I understand how the chip works (by optimising fuel injection and ignition timing?) but can anyone in simple terms tell me what the DV does and why it's essential to change the stock one if you get a chip?
Not thinking about chipping it anytime soon, the stock 170hp version is enough for me (for the moment) but i know I will get HP hungry eventually.
Thanks for any answers
Pete

nice ride, a dv is a diverter valve(most turbo cars its called blow off valve)the reason u need to replace the stock 1 when u get a chip is the stock wont hold the boost that a chip 1.8t puts out. they go for 75-200 dollars (u.s.)
All I have to say is WOW !!!!!!!
This car handles corners like I never even dreamed it was possible!! It's Just INSANE !!
Ohh and in my options I forgot, got Xenon lights too!!!
Thanks Black991.8tq on the DV explenation, guess i'll chip and DV it eventually, but right now I'm just happy doing laps around my block hehehe.

Modifying your car cannot void your auto insurance, so don't worry about it.
If you are on a budget, you can replace the stock DV with an upgraded DV from the TT. It is commonly called the 710N and only costs about 35 dollars.
The main chips are APR and GIAC. Others are Neuspeed, Revo.
the first two are the major players. I have an APR 93 octane chip which is fantastic and totally transformed the car. Others are just as enthusiastic about the GIAC chip.
Have fun.

Thanks David,
another questions: does the DV quality (price) actually affect performance or is it just a question of reliability? After reading most posts about the chips I think i would go with the GIAC eventually, but as I said before, I'm having a lot of fun with the stock version right now...
Also, I know it's "just another stock B6 with sports package" but here are some pix!!!

OHhh looking at those pix another question comes to mind..... Do you guys think it's worth painting the lowers on a Dolphin grey car? and is that a DIY or do some shops do that for you, and if so, what price range are we talking about?
Hey Pete
Sweet car . I have a black APR chipped B6 and have wanted to paint the lowers for along time.
But it turns out its simply not worth the price the body shop was quoting me.
Look into getting your car chipped. It will transform your car, and be the best buck you ever spent on it.
Congrats on the new ride.
