2014 A5 Stolen without keys
Frustrated, confused, relieved...
My Audi 2014 (4 months old) was stolen a few nights ago from my driveway in the middle of the night. I had both keys in my possession. The car was found abandoned a few towns over later in the day. No Damage. None of the nearly $6,000 worth of softball equipment, Louis Vuitton Bag, Jimmy Choos etc... stolen. They didn't even taken the Beats headset that was on my back seat. The only thing that appears to be stolen was the cord for my Iphone.
No visible sign of break in. No visible sign of how they started the car. The police have no idea what could have happened. It makes me feel really uncomfortable as a car owner to think that the car can be taken so easily. Nothing about this makes sense. A bunch of kids would have taken all of the obvious expensive **** in the car. If it were a professional I doubt my car would have been recovered.
How did they steal my car?! Do I need to have my car keys/doors reprogrammed?

As frustrating as it is to order new keys from your dealer as far as proof of ownership goes, this is the reason the owner has to go through all those hoops proving they are the owner of the car. Often proving this face to face with their parts department. Even though the airline lost their luggage with your only set of keys inside that bag, for example. On newer cars like this, if that was to happen you would have to tow the car to your dealer and then keys are ordered for the car. Or keys get ordered once the dealer knows for certain the car is getting towed to their dealership. The first thing that came to mind was somebody wrote down your vin when the car was probably in your driveway. Then called various dealers to see what their procedure was to get a key ordered for "their" car. If this is the scenario, and there is a key out there cut to the locks on your car they will be able to unlock it and steal the contents but shouldn't be able to unlock or turn the steering wheel making it hard to roll out of the driveway and tow away. You buy a lock set with all new keys and program that to your car.
I asked a tech how that could happen to you. He mentioned just this morning on cartalk the discussion was about a black box kind of thing that can electronically pretend to be the key and allows entry to the car. I don't know about starting it though. There was even a surveillance video of this happening from what he told me.
