Default Pre-Sense Malfunction or software programing issue

I was stopped in the left turn lane of a 3 lanes on each side highway so the oncoming traffic was moving at about 60 MPH. I decided it was safe to go as the oncoming car in the inner lane was about half a block away so I started to pull out and the pre-sense activated and locked the brakes with my nose in the oncoming lane. Fortunately it was Saturday and the adjacent lane to the oncoming car was vacant and he just pulled over and continued. Meanwhile I was stuck. If he couldn't pull over it would have been a head on.

I went to the dealer and they said it worked as designed. That seems to be a bunch of BS. I filed a NHTSA report but don't know if anything will come of that. This self-driving stuff is dangerous until they get the bugs out. Anyone have anything similar to report?

Now there is a chapter two for this thread. Yesterday while driving in the express lanes of a limited access highway with no possible intersection operating on cruise control the system decided there was an intersection coming up and it put on brakes to take me from 75MPH to 40MPH. If there would have been someone tailgating behind me it would have been a high speed rear end collision. Isn't anybody else having these kinds of problems?

I used to have that issue all the time before I turned pre-sense off (as much as it can be off, since it still happens every so often). Used to work in an area with a lot of bicyclists and pre-sense would trigger with them all the time. Very bad for urban areas where people are stepping out into the street often.

I've never filed a report about it or told Audi because from my experience their customer service is sub-par. Pre-sense malfunctioning is by far the worst thing about the car.

thanks for the reply. Long story short no response from Audi or NHTSA. I've learned to live with it.
