Default 03 A6 Water Temp Gauge Not Working

My Water Temp Gauge is not working, it stays on cold most of the time... How ever now and then it seems to be just fine. Is this something that is easily fixed?

Maybe the ECT sensor is going bad.

Another possibility is that the thermostat's days are numbered.

i had to replace my coolant temp sensor because mine did they exact same thing yours is doing, its not to bad, the parts like 30$ total with the clip and washer... its located behind the engine block.. at least it was on my 2.8Q but it might be the same spot. i dont have pics or anything but i dont want to tell you something wrong, but not sure about the 2.7T i would only guess its the same spot but someone will help im sure.

I'd suspect the thermostat is staying open, but it could be the sensor. If you do the T-stat plan on doing the whole t-belt thing while your at it.

Yeah I am pretty sure the t-stat is ok... Doesn't seem to be over heating or anythingl like that.

I will call my service girl tomorrow and get it in...

Thank You
