Default 04 A6 4.2 upgrades...need advice

At the end of the certified warranty and considering some upgrades, but could use some advice.
1) I have the sports suspension...how much improvement is possible? Most of the threads discuss improvements over the stock suspension.
2) Brake upgrades...not interested in tracking the car, only improved braking. Brake upgrade kit, or just different rotors, or what? Willing to purchase an upgrade, but seems if the 4.2 comes with pretty big rotors anyway.
3) Does this APR chip really make a difference?
4) Any other suggestions?
5) The "chief executive" says NO to the RS6, so I'll make do, but would like some improvements.

Many thanks.

R Smith

1) I bought the Koni FSD Suspension and installed it about 1 week ago. I can recommend them compared to the stock struts. At the same time you should however replace the control arms too. --> https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=169788
2) I "upgraded" my brakes to cross drilled and slotted Rotors with EBC red stuff brake pads - big difference. Less dust, great breaking even when wet and nice sound when hitting the brakes hard (some don't like the noise but I enjoy feeling them)
3)Never tried the APR chip but it will only get you about 10%-15% more which gets you closer to the limits of your tranni. You decide if 500-600 bucks is worth possibly rebuilding your tranni in the next 30k miles
4) Depending on how the performance of the car is right now consider replacing the coil packs, spark plugs, MAF and vacuum lines - don't forget to clean your air filter.
5) I'd love to own the RS6 especially the >2008 version but haven't won the lottery... yet.

2002 audi a6 4.2 with 115k miles.

Default Thanks for the feedback

Enjoyed your thread. Sounds familiar...been there, everything going well, too good to be true, then you hit the wall. My car has about 72K so it sounds like I just need to get it to a good suspension shop to have an evaluation and some rebuilding. As for the brakes, they're so much better than my old S4, but still are nowhere near what I experienced with the RS6....looking for something in between. By the way, I installed an RS6 rear spoiler on my car. Huge difference in how good it looks.

Thanks for the feedback. I think you're right about the chip.

I have a 2000 A6 2.7T-6 speed and did a GIAC chip (adds 85 hp) plus H&R springs and Bilsteins. Ride is absolutely flat, lowered 1" in front and 1.5" in back. A little harsh on rough roads but overall a massive improvement in every way. I needed to do a complete arms replacement anyway and had the springs/shocks installed at the same time: Bought the kit on eBay for $139+100 shipping: german made. As for brakes, Yours are probably as large as Audi makes short of the new multi piston Brembos which will cost you AT LEAST $3000. First pass, I would go with drilled and slotted rotors and carbon ceramic pads. Believe it or not, I bought my first set on eBay for $160 for pads and rotors. I have just bought black cadmium plated drilled/dimpled The RS6 has 8 piston calipers in front and 4 piston in the rear and buying it will cost thousands, replacement rotors over $1000 and unless you track your A6 (purposeless), you don't need brakes capable of stopping a 450hp car like the RS6. An S5 brake set up might fit and cost less but HONESTLY for all the money, the difference is noteworthy but is hardly jusytifyable. Yes it will look good but really, besides you, who cares....
