Hey guys -hoping to gain some insight into this A 3.0 I foolishly bought for a project. Nice car but the PO sold it to me making major league smoke. And I mean copious quantities- 30 years around engines and I have never seen smoke like that.Did a compression test pretty much 160 except the two rear cylinders on pass side were equal at 130. A wet test brought a 10 psi increase on all . At 170 K I figured pulling the heads would be a safe place to start. There was oil in the cats and the intake manifold. I am just wondering if I should be looking for a new lower end or if careful inspection of the heads/ valve seals are a more likely culprit. Compared to the other A6 2.8 models that I own this thing is an absolute pain to work on. Thanks for any help.
