Default 99 2.8 spewing oil help please

Hi I'm new to this site but im sure it works like any other forum site heres the issue. My father bout this audi not to long ago and it ran fine when he bought it but since then he went to get in it one morning to fire it up to go to work and he seen a big puddle of oil underneath it so he parked it then we started to look at it when he got home that night to see what looks like some kind of oil filter housing is cracked but just yesterday we put some oil in it to move it well it stopped leaking but when we parked it for an hour we went to hop back in to move it back and its leaking again does anybody have any idea of what it could be and advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

There is an oil cooler that sits between the oil filter and the engine. The o-ring that is between the oil cooler and the engine is a common problem. If the oil cooler is cracked, you'll have no choice but to replace it. It's not too difficult of a job. If you replace the oil cooler, make sure to get a new o-ring for it.

Shouldn't need to replace the cooler. Pull the filter, take off the coolant lines and plug them, remove the big but on the threaded rod where the filter screws on, slide off the filter, replace the seal, and reassemble. That nut you remove will likely be loose, which is why the leak occurred in the first place. Make sure it's tight every time you change your oil.
