1993 Audi S4 V8 4.2 oil consumption
Hi all, new to the forum hope you can help me,
I am 1 month into ownership of a 1993 S4 avant 4.2 V8 (S6 avantbodyshape left hand drive) and all is good except that the car seems to use/leak quite a lot of oil. Just after i picked it up I checked the oil which was off the dipstick, I topped it up to the max line (about 2.5 litres) and then did around 1800km's before the oil light came on, I re-checked the level (low) and added 2 litres to bring it back to max. I then re-checked after around 500 kms and it's near min again. I can't see any leaks underneath and park it over a sheet of plaster board to keep an eye on it, no drips. The car doesn't smoke and performance seems fine, ie scarely quick if you're not too careful!
Please help, I am reasonable with a spanner but can't get my head around the problem.
thanks

RE: 1993 Audi S4 V8 4.2 oil consumption
I might be a newbie but I have opened the bonnet!
The car is a lhd drive euro spec S4 avant but the body shape is the same as the S6 avant made up to 98?, thats the car with the 2.2 turbo (I used to have one a few years ago) I believe the first of the large body shape avants were 100 bodies but badged as S4 as it was before the A4/A6 etc names were being used. Any thoughts on where the oil could be going would be really helpful.
thanks

your oil loss/consumption problem is strange. My only thought is it has to be burning it, if there are no drops on the ground or undercarriage, then it must be burning it given the amount of oil you are going through. You are using an incredible amount of oil, my 93 Volvo 850 used to leak 1 quart every 500 miles when my rear main seal was bad. But the entire undercarriage was covered in oil and when I would park it, it would leave a huge oil puddle.
Best of luck,
Jeff
