Default 1995 Audi A6 Wont Start - New Battery Low Voltage

Hello, I am having trouble starting my 1995 Audi A6 Quattro. Since it got cold outside my car would turn over and all the electronics would work but the car would not start. After waiting a few hours and trying again it started up right away. I could then turn off and restart the car as long as I did not let it sit for more than about 30min. Now its at the point where it does not start at all no matter how much I wait. I just replaced the battery today so that is not the problem but I do notice that the voltage meter is only about half way up on the gauge.

Any ideas on what the problem might be or what could be draining my battery to make the gauge read only half way? I'm not certain the cold has something to do with it but it seems when it got cold outside is when the problem started.

If you are reading 12 volt while the car is running, then it is not your battery. Most likely your alternator.

with your car running, put a volt meter across it and it should be reading 13.6 or higher, with the car off it should be reading atleast 12.5. Upon startup, only your battery starts your car and once it turns over, the alternator then kicks in and takes over charging your battery. Alot of times what happens is if your battery dies while your driving, it'll take out your alternator at the same time cuz its overworking trying to charge your battery.

When you say "won't start", do you mean "won't turn over" or "turns over normally but won't fire up"? These are two different issues. The above answers talk to one of the issues: "won't turn over". "Turns over normally but won't fire up" is most likely a fuel pump. But, then again, it could be a lot of other things.

Check the ground between the motor and chassie. Don't think that it is OK even if it is tight. Remove both ends clean the surfaces and replace. It is on the bottom righ t front of the motor.
