1998 A6 - a few problems
ok. i recently bought a 98 a6 with 65k miles on it. today, i bought new window guides for the passenger side door and put them in, now that is fixed. but there are few other thing i need help with.
does anyone know why this button does not stay down or up?! it is always up, which is the locked position so for the people in the back to use the windows, i must be holding down that button. (its the button on the bottom)
also, when i turn my car on and turn on the heat/AC, both temperature gauges start to blink probably for about 30-60 seconds. i never really counted.
can you guys help me out. thanks in advance.

most cars are like this, driver window is auto up and down the rest are press button, if your car has system memory the the button has to be held while the window goes up an all the way down for each window and sunroof

so ur sayin all audi's, you must hold that button for the people in the rear seats to use their windows?!
i highly doubt that. its the WINDOW LOCK button, y would it always be locked?

I've got an A6 1.8T 98 UK model & on mine if I press the Long button you are refering to, a light comes on & if I press it again the light goes off, the buttom always returns to the top position.
I cant remember but if the light is on, passenger lock is activated & if the light is off, the window lock is deactivated and rear and front passengers are able to operate the windows without my assistance.
It sounds to me as if your button is not working correctly, maybe the microswitch in the button is faulty. Check the wiring to the button or just replace it with a complete unit from a breakers yard, Audi will charge a bomb for a new part.
