1998 Audi A6..imput needed
I test drove a 1998 A6, 135,000 miles. It sat for almost two years...tied up in an estate battle. The transmission shifts really hard in all gears. Asking price is 2,500. What is everyone’s opinion.....something to look into or run far and fast?
I would say that a 98 A6 with 135k is a 6k dollar car, well here in MN at least. If you can have a transmission shop check it out before buying I would. If not, I would pass as you will probably need to do a timing belt just in case, and with a potential transmission failure... There is the potential to be out a lot of money. Have the control arms been replaced, shocks, motor mounts, cam seals.....?
Just a though.

At a minimum I would replace all the fluids, including the ATF - that may resolve the hard shifting, assuming you are talking about a Tiptronic.
Check the tires for roundness since the car has been sitting for 2 years. They may need to be replaced so you need to factor this in.
In the end you may have a great car for not too much money, depending on your mechanincal abilities (I am thinking timing belt as mentioned by Jeff).
