I have a 1999 A6 Avant, 79k miles. I bought it for my winter car, as I have a Porsche C4S in the garage, and ended liking it more than I expected. I want to make some cosmetic changes. I saw those awesome tail lights (the dark tinted ones) and was wondering if any company makes them for a wagon. Also, if anyone has any ideas on customization, please let me know.

 

good luck. the a6 avant is very hard to find anything performance related. you can however bolt most rs6 cosmetics on with little or no modification. you hear different let me know.

I have not specifically seen the smoked tail light covers for the Avant, I have seen the tail light “masks� by LLTek. In my opinion, the masks are not as nice as smoked covers but they, and a handful of other suppliers carry other nice looking cosmetic enhancements. In terms of engine performance for the 2.8L 30V things look slim. I haven’t seen much more than chip tuning, cold air intake and exhaust systems. Take a look at Total Audi Performance (TAP) and AWE Tuning:

But for a hot bolt on performance upgrade for the 2.8L 30v check out the PES supercharger.

However this is a pricey upgrade for about a ~20-25HP increase. But since you’re pushing a C4S in the summertime, I can’t imagine why you’d bother with that one anyway.

Correction:

The horsepower increase from astock '99 2.8L 30V engine (~200HP) with that supercharger added is actually around 95-100HP (more with chip tuning). Sorry about that.

 

Is your Avant a TIP or a MAN? If you were to add the PES charger, APR/GIAC ECU chip, a full catback exhaust with gutted Piggies, and a cold air intake, your Avant would give your Porsche a run for its $$.I'm not saying it would beat it but you would be surprised what it would do. Poke around the A4/S4 forum for MODS. There are a lot of 2.8 owners there who could help ya in the motor dept. Cosmetic wise, get the 4.2 door blades, a nice set of wheels, cross drilled/slotted brakes, smoked tailights (Ping CARY for a a good spray technique), KONI grill inserts, PIAA fog lamps (just bulbs), tinted windows and of course a AUDIFORUMS.COM sticker...That will make it go faster...LOL..By the time you are spending the $$ you will be happy

 

Thanks for the great advise. I left out some details though. I already have tinted windows and the cross bars on the roof rack. I am looking into all my options. I am going to do some upgrades, but only cosmetic. I am thinking the S6 mirrors and door blades, not sure about spraying tail lights though. I am also thinking about trading my 2005 ML500 in for a used a8.
