I have recently purchased what seems to be a flawless 2002 A6 4.2 Quattro with a pretty good set of options. I've had a few minor electrical issues that i've taken care of, but one issue that is still prevelent is that when warmed up, sometimes it seems to take off from a stop in 2nd or maybe even 3rd gear?
I'll go from the brake to the gas, give it about 1/3 gas and the rpms will gradually rise to about 3k rpm.
but if i quickly take my foot off the gas and put it back to the 1/3 position, its now in 1st and rockets the car forward with all 295 lbs of torque.

I'm told it may be an electronics issue, since the tranny isn't slipping.
Is this something that a transmission service will cure?
