2000 a6 Misfire, multiple codes...
Still new to this site and it seems to be very informative....I have a 2000 a6 2.7t, 187k....Not familiar with cars what so ever, especially german...The car misfires on idle/take-off, no (power). Took to a local auto zone, codes came back P 0300, P 1131, and P 0431, also had a better test done on it by a local buddy of mine, and he got code P 1606 and Code P 300, the abs light, brake and check engine are on....All coils brand new, didn't fix problem (previous owner installed)...pulled plus, 3 are brown and were completely soaked. Other 3 fine, and local mechanic that peaked said 2 cylinders were completely not working on passenger side..Has anyone had a similiar problem like this before? I'm going to have it looked at by a german car specialist, im just trying to throw around how much this fix is going to cost me, and whether its something very serious like a bad cylinder, or a tranny prob...Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, once again, im completely car illiterate with this type of vehicle.
Thanks BOB for the informative directory....Isn't a discussion forum an informative search networking site? If you'd look a little closer into my previous 'bump' of this so called bob method "search" I believe that was the only topic I pulled up before this....I forget to add to my topic that if at all, could you please filter through the smartass comments..
Corky - Bob is not out of line -- We usually suggest that folks do a search before asking questions because many of them have been asked and answered before.
All you need to do is search your P codes and find out what they are for and then ask for clarification if you don't understand. It's not rocket science

Hi Corky1, I joined this forum yesterday and after seeing Bob's Super informative answer to my post (and all the others) I have decided to leave and try find a different Audi forum.
FYI, this is a mistake free zone, just ask Bob.

And Bob if you had read my initial post, it clearly states im new to this forum/car/virtual intelligence....Simply implying no need to be a smartass to someone that has 1 post....And for the P codes, which might I had there 23 of them at the dealers computer which i wont post all of them...Basically, P 0300 and P 1606 is what the common denominator codes were between 3 mechanics....which is abs, and misfire ......Mass other codes came up from an vw and audi scans...looked at all of them and can't decipher what any of it means...I'm on my fourth mechanic looking into the shadow of the other 3 "know what they're doing" mechanics that have paid rent with my mechanic donations to look at the damn thing, i've now taken to an Audi dealer, seeing as how I found zero help on here, and spent 800.00 alone on thirsty mechanics to "LOOK" at my car and still have NO idea, and lead me to another dealer with an impressive bill...I have an AllDataDIY online manual to retrieve codes, but once again, im not a mechanic, and have no idea what any of this means...that's why I "attempted" (smh bob) to join this forum for information and help...Not some 'son go to your room' online antics from alpha numerical smartasses...
I think you are at the point where you need to do a compression and leakdown test to determine the health of the "bad" cylinders.
The misfire codes would lead me to check the operation of the fuel injectors first. I would also look at the ignition harness and injector harness on the passenger side. I think this car has an igntion module for each side, it could bear looking at. The 1131 code does not show up on my diagnostic chart but it is probably a fuel trim code. The 1606 code is a rough road detection code that points to the CAN bus harness. You may need pro help on these codes, I have seen a lot but they are a tough group of codes to deal with . The high mileage of the car makes more systems suspect and widens the search, making it a harder job to pinpoint. Be looking at general overall system problems and not isolated cylinder problems.
As for the cryptic answers, every forum has these, they are a part of the process, don't get discouraged.

WoW -- Corkey's info went from an AutoZone and friend's scan to 3 mechanics, 23 codes, an Alldata link, and $800 in just two days with a one day to respond to Bob's comment. He must have been busy little B. :-)
But he wasn't too busy to tell Bob to filter his comments and complain about online antics from alpha numerical smartasses... Whatever that means!
Corky - if you really want help it would be better if you left off your "smart *** comments" and paid attention to what is being said. Did you read the posts about mis-fires?
As for Alaska A6 - It's your loss --You are missing an opportunity to get help from the most informative Audi forum on the internet.

Try checking your crankcase ventillation/breather(Spider Hose) hose for any obstruction, leak or loose connection. This is one corrective action recommended by Bentley Publishing for diagnosing error code P0300.
P0431 Error code is an error code for a bad Warm-Up Cat Bank 2...most likely its faulty.
P1131 Error code is for a bad O2 sensor for Bank 2, Sensor 1...more than likely this is faulty as well.
P1606 Error code is related to your ABS Module/ Electrical fault, and the corrective action recommends checking for a broken electrical connection between the ECM and the ABS Control Module. Then again, the module itself may just be bad and in need of replacement or rebuilding.
P.S. Did you buy the car with all of these issues? Did all of them appear all at once? Or was the maintenance and upkeep just ignored?
