Default 2001 2.7t a6...Crankseal leak...Removing Bolt!

my car is leaking hella oil at the front of engine and im sure it may be the crankseal. been watching several vids but im still a bit unsure on the proper removal of the bolt and gear. Should i leave belt on and remove? also which direction do i turn to loosen? U turn the bolt clockwise to line up for tdc....so same direction to loosen w more pressure? Or opposite? Im a noob but im confident i can replace..

Crank bolt is right hand thread. Lefty-Loosey, righty tighty.
If you plan on doing this, continue to do you homework reviewing prior writeups. You'll need to put engine in service position, & will need to remove timing belt, among other things. If you're going this far, you'll be needing the proper tools. Set of torx & socket head sockets . Since you're pulling TB, then need to get crank lock pin, cam lock bar, & 2 jaw sprocket puller.
Other sources of front oil leak could be valve cover, tensioner (on DS), cam seals, or even power steering line leak.
