Default 2001 A6 Alarm motion deactivate?

Greetings,
Like many I also didn't receive the manual when I bought my Audi. It's a 2001 Avant. Not sure if the switch is bad or I'm doing something wrong but I'm hoping to learn if there's a trick to deactivating the motion sensor on the alarm as my dog always sets it off. Or, if you can lock the doors and not activate the alarm. Any advice would be gratefully accepted. Thanks for your time.

Check for a button inside the drivers door frame at the bottom of the B-post. Mine is there, with a trunk release button.

Thanks, tried that but to no avail. Why I wonder if it's the switch or the operator. Is there a process to follow?

Mine has a small, red indicator light on the button that turns on to indicate that you've pressed it. Does your light turn on when you push the button?

Hmm... no red light either with the key in the ignition or out. Maybe it is the switch?

have you tried pressing and holding the button. I have to hold my button down for a few seconds for it to activate the light.

I activate mine when I turn the car off, get out and then press (hold) the button.

a new one at the dealer is 25 bucks I believe...my buttons were gone when I bought mine a few years ago. It's also useful if you leave the sunroof open.
