Default 2002 A6 4.2 Oil change Synethic every 10k?

Can someone tell me if doing a synthetic oil change on this car would be once a year every 10k? A European specialist in European cars told me this and it costs 105 dollars for the oil change. Thanks guys..

I replace my oil every 3-5k (synthetic) to keep the car running smooth. I think however if you are a non aggressive driver 10k or once every year (which ever comes first) is possible but I would not recommend it. And yes an oil change is expensive on our V8s .. it takes 8 quarts + fresh oil filter. If you do it yourself it will run you about 70$.

on my '03 4.2 I usually stick with about 7500iles between changes. keeps the oil from getting too dark.

Apparently Audi does not want the engines to last too long. I definitely would not go past 5000 miles, unless it was all interstate cruising. Changing oil every 10,000 miles is OK if you plan to change the car every year, and let the next owner worry about it. The oil itself does not wear out, but all the dirt, grime, and especially sludge that is going to bypass the filter after it clogs up, is going to slowly chew up the engine. Some of the newer VW/Audi engines have been having oiling problems caused by sludge resulting from long oil change intervals combined by inadequate engine design. If you don't see paying $100 for an oil change, do your own. Go to your local Wallmart and pick up two 5 quart jugs of Mobil1 for about $30 each and a Bosch filter for $10 and you will have an extra 2 quarts to use later.

X2

I would not run 10k on my car. I change the oil every 5k.

If you do a lot of city driving then I would change it earlier. Fuel gets into the oil from Lots of cold starts and weakens the TBN and viscosity.

I would say 7k is OK If the car is doing hwy driving.
