Default 2003 A6 3.0 non turbo engine issue

So I just got my car a week ago and it's already a paperweight. I had to put 3.5 quarts of oil in it right after purchase. I don't know for sure how long it had been ran with the oil level that low. Now it seems like the timing isn't right, there's a higher pitched clanging sound from the passenger side of the engine and when I limped it home it sounded like a fan hitting the shroud (I know that's not the case). I'm trying to put together what problems I have on my hands and what it's going to run me. Any ideas? Also, when idling, before it did what it is now, the engine at idle sounded similar to a diesel engine's idle.

I would say get that car to a mechanic asap and have them diag. probably towing is a better choice

if you can, do you have a code reader and what do they say?

Codes are all emissions and random misfires. I isolated the noise to the passenger side head and possibly a timing tensioner. Will post pics soon on what I find.

Update:

I pulled the valve cover and looked for wear and metal shavings or dry parts. There was no wear, no metal shavings, and while running all parts that are visible have oil flowing to them. The loud squeaking sound is still there though, like it sounds like it's deeper in there. And is there any rotating parts directly beneath the intake manifold that could be making the noise?

It's a rod knocking. Cross my fingers that it's a simple bearing swap.

Update : bearings came in today, the oil pan is off, metal shavings are in the pan, and the connecting rod is salvageable.

Will be dropping the suspension tomorrow to finish removing all of the oil pans and finish this gal up.
