Default 2003 Audi A6 3.0 Wagon 70K, Check Engine Light on

I just bought this car from a dealership.
The code is P0441 EVAP emission control system purge flow fault.
I've read in some places that this can be caused by issues with the fuel cap, fuel filter etc.
I filled the car with 87 octane (probably not a very bright thing to do)
Is there anything I should look for before bringing it to a mechanic.
I was planning on a 50 mile trip tomorrow, should I get a rental instead?

no need for a rental. it will be fine to drive with an evap code. it will not affect engine performance etc. just a part of the evaporative emissions system. more than likely you will need a new evap purge valve also known as a N80 valve.

Not sure about the 3.0, but I suspect your N80 purge valve is in the same spot as the 2.8. Here it is, highlighted in the photo. I had a similar issue and was trying to track down the same valve on AudiWorld. My mechanic cleared the error back in March and it hasn't returned... we never swapped out the valve.

So I took my road trip today and somewhere along the way, the light went out.
Thanks for the input guys. Hopefully the light stays off for a while.

Recently my check engine light when on in my 2003 Audi A6 3.0L quattro and I am not too sure of the cause, 88k miles on it. The check engine light came on about
2 weeks ago and then went off in same day. It then went back on yesterday. So, any idea what the issue is? I really am reluctant to get a diagnostics check done, though I will if I have to

you will have to find where the purge valve is located in the 3.0 and take it out. before you replace it i recommend cleaning it. I took a cotton swab and dipped it in some gasoline and cleaned out the valve. bunch of black crud came out and the check engine light never returned. it usually came on and off every 200 miles. but its been a good 2 months and a easy 2000 miles since i cleaned it. give it a shot. hope it helps.

If I knew the answer to your issue, then I am going to go buy a lottery ticket tonight. Seriously, you need to have someone read what the cel is for first. With a code or two, we can start commenting on it.

Yu, and it's done free at Autozone or Advance. Takes 5 minutes of your time. There's about 1000 things that can trip the light. Guessing is pointless.
