Default 2004 3.0 questions

Hello all,

I've had the MIL come on sporadically for a couple of weeks now on my 2004 A6 3.0 (automatic trans). I just went to AutoZone today and got a code of P0722 (Output Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal). It lists the probable causes as 1. Poor electrical connection or 2. Failed Output Speed Sensor.

I have also noticed recently that my RPMs are jumping from about 1200 to about 1700 when I accelerate too quickly. The engine seems hesitant. Could these two be related? Could this be a transmission issue? Is there something I can do, short of taking it to a dealer or transmission shop, that might help diagnose the issue more clearly?

Thanks for any and all advice,
Mutus
