0w-40 from mobile one is audi approved and it will provide best protection at cold start. most people on these forums usually use m1 0w-40 and some use 5w-40. as long as you use fully synthetic and change it every 6k miles you should be alright.

Beast, as a fellow Michigander, I use M1 0W-40 for the winter to ensure low viscosity and good turbo lube on those real cold mornings. 5W is close enough and you probably won't encounter any problems, but I'd go with 0W next change and then, if you want, use 5W in the summer. I sympathize because 0W is more expensive and tougher to find than 5W. But I have 190k on my 2.7T and attribute that to regular oil changes, gentle driving, and using M1 0W. Let me tell you, I was in Chicago a couple winters ago and at -8F one morning, I was glad to have 0W because the motor sounded like it was turning over molasses when I started it.

HAVE YOU CHANGED YOUR TURBOS YET? I'm at 130k on my 2.7t and using M-1 5w 30 and doing oil changes every 4k miles. i'm hoping for at least another 30k. is it possible?

Sean, it is possible to exceed 200k miles on the oem turbos with regular maintenance and no abuse. There are a couple guys in that mileage neighborhood on the forum. I have owned the car since 2005 and 37k and it has mostly highway miles, but it was chipped at 75k. I currently have a small oil leak on one of the turbos that I watch. My power seems a little down, but at 190k it does not surprise me. I am shooting for 1/4 million miles on this vehicle and am prepared to replace the turbos (with K04 kit) if and when they go. The vehicle looks good, has a stick, and it's a lot cheaper to fix the engine and reupholster the leather than buy a new/used S4 or RS4. And with K04s and an updated chip, it should have plenty of power.
