2004 A6 3.0 O2 sensor issue
Got two codes which has been determined by my independent shop to be:
P0441 Evap purge solenoid
P1120 Oxygen sensor bad: Bank 2, Sensor 1.
That shop wants $640+tax for the O2 sensor (4 hrs labor), and $157+tax for the purge solenoid. Seems like an awful lot of cash for these 2 parts.
However, the car runs perfectly fine.
Questions:
1. Since the car runs fine, is this work that can wait? Not due for inspection for another year. Would the cats be in danger? Planning a 2500 mile trip in November.
2. I need to do timing belt and associated parts, as well as the fuel tank recall. I'm going to get both done at the Audi dealer, since they quoted me about the same price as the independent. (I'm at 86k miles). So I'm wondering if there is any work in these jobs that would make that O2 sensor more accessible and cut down on the labor time?
Thanks!!
Frank

You can wait to fix the problem for a bit, but the work related to the timing belt doesn't really impact O2 sensor replacement. But since they are big ticket item, an indy shop my give you a discount for doing them together.

Unfortunately, my shop won't do any discounts at all.
In fact, they were going to charge me the same as my local Audi dealer for the timing belt and associated parts, so I'm going to have it done by Audi.
They (indy shop) even charged me $72 for an oil change, and I supplied my own filter!
