A6 with ABS sensor issue

A6 with ABS sensor issue
I have a 2002 A6 with 112,000 miles on it. The ABS warning light comes on sporadically at any speed, along with a brief burst of the ABS system. The dealer says I need a new "yaw rate sensor" and the part is $800. I'd be OK with just driving it as is, but the ABS coming on at highway speeds cannot be good for the system.
What are my options? Thanks, Pete

RE: A6 with ABS sensor issue
Unless your car has some sort of yaw control system (which it might), it could be an ABS (aka wheel speed) sensor freaking out. Those are a lot less money (about $150 for the A4, likely comparable on the A6). Ask him for the OEM part number and I'm sure you can find it somewhere online for significantly less than his quoted price.

RE: A6 with ABS sensor issue
If it's giving you faults for a yaw sensor, then it doesn't have anything to do with the wheel speed sensors. Your yaw sensor is under the middle of the back seat (which just pulls out by the way). I have seen a vehicle that kept throwing a fault for that sensor even after it was replaced. The other options are wiring issues, or the abs control module. None of which are too cheap. If it was my car, I would leave it alone.

Getting the same message. I googled and it looks like you may change the sensor and shortly after the light will come back on as Sethg10 Said. $800 is an expensive "my bad". Thanks Sethg10.
