Default 2004 A6 headlamp removal

The passenger side headlamp just blew out. I'm trying to change it but can't get the headlamp unit out of the car. I removed the two torx screws on top of the unit but it seems to be held in at the bottom. Has anyone done this?

There is a third torx screw down a hole in the radiator support. It's almost impossible to see. Do a search on replacing the Y-pipe and the write ups I have seen show how to tkae the headlight out.

pull the bumper??? you don't have to pull the whole headlight out to replace the bulb. just pop off the cover on the back of the light and untwist the collar that holds the bulb in place. put a new bulb in and be done with it. just don't touch the new bulb with your exposed skin.

Well i was just stating in order to get the headlamp assembly out without breaking it you have to remove the bumper cover. Its possible to get the headlamp assembly out without taking off the bumper but you can break part of the lower headlamp assembly, and that is just stupid to try.

maybe the 02 a6 is different, but i pulled out my whole headlight assembly to replace a bad ballast and it was no problem. bumper stayed put and nothing broke. and i was just stating that you don't have to pull the headlight out to replace the bulb.

I have A4 and should it be the same way. It is a really tight space, and I don't think that I can get the bulb out and the new one in. Do you have any suggestions?

On the a4 you dont have to removed the bumper to get the headlight out. You just have to remove the two bolts on top of the headlight and loosen the two on the bottom. You can also remove the airbox or the ps reservoir to give yourself more room if you dont want to removed the headlight assembly.

for the record, I removed the headlight assembly today and I didn't have to take the bumper off. I didn't even need a Torx to take out the '3rd' bolt. I just used a long and narrow flat head screw driver. And this was on a 2000 A6
