Default 2004 A6 S-Line Replace KO3s?

Hi all,

My 2004 A6 S-Line 2.7T has 80,000 kms on it and I'm sure the stock turbos will last another 80,000 kms but I am wondering if there is any benefit to replacing the turbos with OEM KO4s. I'm not going to be chipping the car or anything but I have heard that having an OEM KO4 kit installed can increase performance, extend the life of the engine and will work with the factory ECU etc....is this true? Or should I just wait and install the KO4s only if my KO3 turbos die?

Thanks!

I don't think just putting on K04s is going to make it run better. They are performance upgrades and to have it all run properly (from what I can tell), you need a kit that includes piping and intakes (take a look on ECSTuning website). I think the kit, piggies, and a larger exhaust will probably set you back $5k in parts and $1-2 for installation, but you'll end up pushing close to 450hp. I'm at 153k miles will oem turbos, and if they fail my plan is to invest in a one-time upgrade. If you search this site using K04s or stage 3, you'll find some guys who have installed them. Contact them directly for real world advice.

Default same thing

i have the same car 2004 s-line 2.7t with 62K. one thread said use k04s if the k03s go out and it's 3-5K depending on kit and shop charges. spend a couple thousand more for 400+ hp that sounds great. seems that much power must need more tranny, brakes and suspension.

please post what you decide to do. thanks - eric

The K04s by themselves will do nothing for you. The ECU controls the boost and if you retain the stock ECU, you will see no performance increase. Since it is an expensive job, you should wait until the stock turbos go before contemplating this action.
