Question 2004 Audi A6 Quattro Starting Problems

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

For the recent 6 months, I begin to have starting problems with 2004 audi a6 quattro 3.0 (about 58K miles on it). It is an excellent vehicle and I really like it. But, I was not able to start engine more often recently. I don't think it is related to temperature, moisture, etc. and it just happens so randomly and more often. For better demonstration, I have uploaded a video clip on Youtube. You should be able to see and hear it. Once again, I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

PS: Whenever I brought my vehicle into the local service center, it just worked fine and they never find any problems.

It sounds like you are letting go of the key before it starts. Maybe I am wrong, but turn the key longer.

Hello Jeffla,

I was holding it maybe 2+ seconds, but it automatically shut that off after certain time. I also tried to hold it longer a few times (5 seconds +), but it didn't work. I appreciate your thought and any ideas will help.

Thanks!

Your EPC and CEL are on. Find someone with a code reader, preferably VAGcom and find out what the codes are.

Hi hxgaser,

Thank you for your idea. I would try to find someone who has a code reader. By the way, do you think there is any chance spark plugs can cause problems?

Cheers!

I doubt it. Did you change spark plugs recently?

It has never been replaced. It is still the original one from the factory. I drove in for service yesterday, and I think I can hear back on monday. I will the story with you.

Thanks.

The starting motor was replaced, and it begins to start well as intended.
