2006 A6 Navigation not installed
Hello guys, I have been a long time reader, and this is my first post.
I have a 2006 A6 with the head unit that has the screen and supposedly supports Navigation. When I press the button, the screen says "Navigation not installed"
I have searched through the forums as well as the other Audi sites, and I can't seem to figure out what it is I need to buy. Everything on ebay includes the head unit, which I do not need.
I am unsure if I need to just put an Audi Navigation DVD in, or do I need to install more hardware. How can I tell?
My interior looks similar to this picture from the site:

RE: 2006 A6 Navigation not installed
Most likely im WRONG but I believe there is a unit in the trunk of the car (like a cable box looking like thingy) that is like the "brain" of the GPS, also it might be refering to the antena maybe? Is it the new C6? or the old C5 because in the pic your showing a C6, in that case you should just take it to the dealer and have them service is since its under warranty, if not maybe you should take it to where you bought it. Good Luck

The car is a C6. It was a really good deal because it was a former rental car.
I see that I need to determine if I have the junk in the trunk or not.
Can anyone help me with what I need to look for?
The navplus.us website only has part numbers for up to a C5, and I can't seem to get anything when searching.

RE: 2006 A6 Navigation not installed
If the navigation not installed comes up in the MMI screen the navigation unit in the trunk is not present.
You can install the system as it comes from the dealer using a wiring kit (some pretty major wiring) and the navigation unit, and the navigation cd.
The price at having the dealer install it would cost more than if you bought the car with navigation.

I am definately looking to purchase the parts that I need and install myself.
What is the best suggestion on finding the navigation unit and the wiring? I have no luck searching on ebay, as mentioned earlier, all the auctions include the head unit. The head units that are shown on these auctions look like they are from a C5 A6 or a different model Audi, because the controls are to the right of the screen instead of down in the console.
Are their junkyards that specialize in Audi parts or websites that sell new take off units?
What is the model or part numbers that I am looking for?
Thanks!

RE: 2006 A6 Navigation not installed
You need a specific model naviation unit and cd for your car, your VIN number will be needed to verify which navigation unit is compatible with your car. The audi dealer is the only place where you can get the navigation wiring kit, un-less someone previously bought one and is selling it on e-bay. Just buy everything at the dealer and the wiring kit comes with complete instructions in 5 different languages. If you install it yourself you can save about $400.
