Default 4.2 A6 runs rough when operating temperature is reached

Hi,

I have a challenging problem with my 2005 A6 4.2 (canyon red). Everyday when the engine temperature reaches the operating temperature the car runs rough and loses power. When I come to a stop for 10 seconds, then the car runs fine from that point on with no issues at all.

I brought it to Audi. The code is P1340 which points to an issue with the camshaft. They gave me an estimate of $10,400 to rebuild the engine...basically blew me off. To me it makes no sense that the camshaft only has an issue once a day when the engine gets warm, then stops having an issue if I stop at a stop sign.

Also, this only happens around town. If I get on the highway when the engine is cold then the car never misfires the whole trip. So I'm thinking it's somehow related to the speed sensor and doesn't affect the car when traveling over 60mph

Any ideas? It's a great car and I want to keep it.

Thanks,
John

I will try to change a couple sensors before letting them rob you of $10k ... crankshaft position sensor / speed sensor, and/or the MAF.

Swap this may be ? http://www.shokan.com/viewcar.php?id...0_P1010186.JPG
