what year did the 4.2 tiptronic start coming with the shifting controls on the steering wheel?

'02 is the correct anwser.

 

It was in the A6 for 2002 only, and in the C5 S6 for 2002 and 2003. Buttons only, not paddles.

 

say if i were to get an 01 could i swap the steering wheel assembly into it from an 02 to get the shift controls? i would assume i could, since you can even attatch the paddle version...but i would like all the other features that are on the steering wheel as well
