'96 2.8 Quattro Front Strut Blues
'Been awhile on this forum since I rebuilt the entire valve train on this car when the belt broke about 4 years ago! Could have never done the job without this Forum help. . .And now a new issue with this car:
The upper mountings on the struts are loose, rattling and have about 3" of vertical slop when the car body is compressed and released. It all began with an increasingly noisy rattle/banging when underway, which only worsened with time. The struts are only about 2 years old and without tearing the suspension apart, I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with this issue. The lock nuts are tight on the top strut shaft so that's not the issue here. Since the problem is uniform/the same on both sides, I'm also suspicious of front coil spring sag or the wear/aging of the top rubberized collars (don't know the proper term). I'd sure welcome any thoughts on this!
Thanks!
