96 and 97 A6 Radio Info Needed
What’s the real story on 96 and 97 Audi A6 Radios? Are all Delta radios the same, is there a special Bose version, or can they be reprogrammed to Bose?
I have a 96 A6 and a 97 A6 Avant with Delta radios. Both of them are a getting a bit sick and probably need replacement. I think I understand the security code feature but have a question about Bose vs non-Bose. Both of my radios don’t say Bose on the outside but display Bose when turned on. When I search Ebay I see radios that look the same. (some with and some without security codes) A few of the descriptions say they are not Bose and one said that the dealer could change it to Bose.
The volume on 96 radio can’t be adjusted. It just goes to very loud when you attempt to increase it slightly, so it most likely needs replacement.
The 97 radio turns itself off after about an hour. When I press the on button in and out it comes back on without a problem. It is probably a good way to save the battery if I forget to turn it off but it is a bit of a pain and might indicate that there is a bigger problem coming.

RE: 96 and 97 A6 Radio Info Needed
Gonna seem like a long shot but, for the 97, if it is at all like my 2000 which turns off the radio after 1 hour of running off the battery. So since this is happening to you when the car is running, maybe your radio is only getting power through the battery circuit and not the ignition circuit. So when you turn the radio on while driving the car, it doesn't know the car is on and thinks its running off the battery and shuts off after 1 hour. Just an idea, farfectched I know.
As for the Bose vs Non Bose I believe it is just a pre-set programming that can be enabled or disabled in those radios. But someone on here will know for sure.

Thanks Jeffla -
I think your right.I might have a fuse out on the ignition side of the radio feed. Knowing that it normally shuts off after an hour of not driving is a big help in tryinjg to figure out the problem.
