Default 96, A6, Coolant Overflow

Recently I had a small reservoir leak and replaced it. Just a small amount when it was really hot (I live in Phoenix). While doing this I though I’d change the coolant. My problem now is that it heats up and over flows. I can’t go over 4 miles with out this happening. But the temp gauge reads fine, a little higher than what it use to but not on the high end of the gauge. I have tried topping off the fluid several times and letting it warm up slightly and then cool back down. I’ve run the heater on full. I think there is air still in the system but just can’t get it out.

Any ideas on what else it may be or a trick to get the air out? I have had other European cars that have bleed screws on the top of the block. I’ve also heard talk of removing a heater hose but I have not been able to find where they go through the firewall.

Any help would be appreciated.

Craig
