Oil in Coolant Overflow

Oil in Coolant Overflow
I drive a 2001 Audi A6 with around 140,000 miles on it. The Other day I went to put oil in it because it was running low. Unfortunately instead of pouring it where it belongs I poured it into the engine coolant overflow tank, closed up the hood and thought nothing of it. I then left for a month to return home leaving my car sitting at school. When I got back I drove it briefly only to see that I still needed oil, when I opened up the hood I realized my mistake. I brought it to the Audi dealer and he told me that there was no damage currently but that the flush to clean it out would cost almost $700 to do. My question is if there is a cheaper as efficient way to correct my dumb blonde mistake. I poured a decent amount in there, about half a quart. The dealer said that they would need to remove the front bumper in order to properly flush the system so that the oil would not clog anything up. Any help with this issue is much appreciated.

well, you can either have it done properly, or you can try to cut corners and hope for the best. my recommendation is to get an estimate from an independent shop in your area. make sure they are experienced with working on Audis. You will probably be able to save some money that way, but still expect to pay for your mistake. your only other option is to DIY. based on your recent past history, i think you should let a shop take care of it for you.

you def need to do a chemical flush to remove the lubricant from the coolant system and all components. $700 IMO is robbery as you will be able to get that done at mostly any repair shop for less than 1/3 that price. I would stick to a shop who mainly work on european cars though which means, stay away from quick change oil shops with those great discount deals on services as they tend to cause more of a headache than you already have
