I gotta change out that o-ring myself... I put it off and now I'm dripping
Ya.. most dont understand exactly what that belly pan does.. like help keeping the car cool by preventing the air from wrapping around the bumper/spoiler and pooling behind the radiator, for example.

You read it correctly: As of last Sunday afternoon, I now have an opening for a Parts Runner for me following the vacating of my winter resident, the Pack Rack! Went up there last weekend with a "humane trap," cleaned up and out all of his next and food supply, set the trap with a nice chunk of Cheddar and voila, he's now gone. Took him down to the bottom of our hill, about one mile, let him loose and that's that. Hopefully, as I do further car/house projects, there'll be no more disappearances of crucial pieces to my job. Perhaps that Pack Rat has trained me to move more quickly through my work projects!!!!
In any case and more germaine to this site, the A6 is running beautifully, I'm awaiting the gear indicator display module from Shokan and then I'll replace the burned out dash lights as well, then I'm going to get into those very sluggish, slam-in-the-door front seatbelts, have new Michelins on order via a local Sam's Club and we whould be in a prestty sweet spot 'til the next fun thing, which is as follows:
The HVAC system/unit, now in the warmer weather, appears to not want to completely shut down/close off on the heat cycle, continuing to put out warm/hot air even when switched over to vent or A/C. I susptect some failing/faulty electro-mechanical control module unter the dash somewhere but, as always, will great welcome and appreciate any input from my "homies" out there! This is my sweet wife's car and she's complaining a bit about that heat coming through even though I just quip, "Open the sunroof and/or a window!" Doesn't work for her and therefore, for me!!!
If you have thoughts on this, let me know and, in the meantime, enjoy the pics of the now-departed Pack Rat!

The A/C Control Head has an internal OBD which will give you an error code if you have a problem. The Bentley has instructions for how to use it. However, once the repairs are made, you need VAG-COM to delete the error code. Disconnecting the battery will not make them go away.
Thought my buddies here on this thread would be interested in seeing what I'm doing on the A6 currently. It's also posted on anothe thread, "Seatbelt Blues," I think.
In any case, I may have written here on this thread the continuing and worsening problem with the front seatbelt retractors operating very sluggishly, often resulting in my slamming the door on them. Yesterday, I got into the passenger side to investigate, not-so-successfully pulling off the plastic bottom sill plate (Shokan, here I come again!), breaking the plastic but eventually exposing the retractor system. What preliminarily appears to be the case is that the actual retractor down by the floor seems to work quite propery WHEN I create slack in the belt between said retractor assembly and the upper, B-Pillar mount/loop. Therefore, my suspicion is that, because of aging (perhaps the thickening and hardening of the belts themselves- just like me!), the belt no longer passes smoothy through that upper loop. This I further confirmed when I detached that upper loop and manually angled it in such a way that allowed the belt to extend and retract smoothy and smartly. So, what to do? Replacing belts is costly because of the liabilities involved, I think, so I'm going to try to either create an angling shim to all the belt to travel more smoothly through its cycle and/or open up the slot in that belt-loop mounting. Stand by and check out the attached pics for your viewing pleasure! Any thoughts from my "homies" out there would be greatly welcome, as always!
By the by, installed a brand new set of Michelin MXV, All-season tires for the summer, removing the beloved Blizzaks for now. Also, got an Air Bag warning light which I'm about to go out and neutralize with my computer-based VAG toy!
Hope you are all enjoying what I trust is the nicer/warmer weather and moreover, enjoying your Autobahn Burners- even these older A6's!!!!

I still say its the thickening/dirt in the grease. The spring, which is also aged, has to much resistance against it...
Hey Jim!
Say, maybe I'll just grab some 60 grit sandpaper and shave down the thickness of those belts!! Just kidding!
Think I'll do both of my planned interventions and rewind/tighten up that spring, hopefully without busting it, and then also open up that belt loop a bit without harming the belt itself. Stand by and thanks, as always, for your input!

IF that sucker pops out of it container, It'll launch out like a bomb and it's a real two-handed wrestle to rewind the thing. So, be careful out there IF you try to do this. I'm going to reinstall the tensioner today and see if it's better. It appears to be so. . .Stand by! Couldn't snap any pictures 'cause I was grappling with the spring!

...
Hey Jim! And anybody else out there. . .Working on those seatbelts still and am not yet satisfied with the results. More rewinding to do. . .
Got a Check Engine Light today, plugged in the VAG-COM program, ran the system under the "Engine" read window and am showing no codes at all. Ran the program with both the engine running and with just the ignition switch on and the program shows a reading with the little rotating "stick" in view, but it runs and runs and runs, up to one hour, with no codes showing and the warning light still obviously on. . .
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
