Default A6 1.8T problems

Hi guys im new on here, how are you all? I have a 99 A6 avant 1.8T which ive had for 2 years now and the last 6 months it becoming a pain. For a start my ABS light on the dash is flashing (centre of dash), I wouldnt mind but i just want my imformation trip computer back on again. Is there a way to bypass this? And the other thing is my water temp gauge. only reads about 70 degrees not the normal 90degrees. Somtimes it will drop to nothing but only if your at hight speed, slow down and it goes upto around 70 degrees. But if I turtn the engine off and leave it for a minute, start it back up and the gauge reads 90 degrees and starts to drop. It never goes over 90 degrees though. I have put a new engine coolant temp sensor in and it was worse. The temp gauge bearly moved so I put the old one back in. These two little problem are now making me hate the car, and I just want her back to normal. If you have any ideas they would really be much appreciated, thanks pals, Regards James.

James,

Looks like a non-N./A . model.
1.8T - look at A4 forums.
Have you ever read the DTC? It's time to do the reading!

Yeah, even though you may have an A6, the guys over in the A4 forums are all 1.8t experts (well, when compared to us), so see if they can help over there too.

The ABS is complex, I suggest getting the shop to diagnose it. If you want to help, check fluid level, pull all the ABS connectors you can get to and spray electronics cleaner on them, and clean the wheel sensors. After that, it's the dealer for me. The temp thing may be a sticking thermostat. I would replace it as a PM anyway, and it may fix the problem. Be careful to bleed the system carefully following the manual or you could toast the engine.

Sounds like 2 problems. Faulty thermostat and these ABS modules have a high failure rate. Having any fault codes would help

hi guys thank for your replies. I have a VAG scanner and i plugged in for the ABS and comes up with "linking error" but on the one day my ABS didnt come on i plugged it in again and it gave me fault code 01203 (connection between ABS and instument cluster).I took the cluster out made sure everthing was connected and it was but the light still comes on.
