A6 2.7T 'Thump' when easing off on throttle
Hello all,
Recently bought a '99 2.7T Quattro (Tiptronic) and really enjoying it. More than satisfied with performance - especially in the snow and ice, but one slight concern however....
When easing off on throttle after acceleration (light or heavy), there is a 'Jolt' (could be a 'thud' maybe!). Almost as if the engine is momentarily braking, comes with a dull thudding noise at same time - lasts less than half a second and after happening the car cruises along nicely until the next time I accel..and then ease off on the pedal.
I've tried it in tiptronic mode and it still does it without any indication on the combi display that the gear has changed so I am not sure if it is the transmission.
I am curious as to what it is and any suggestions would be appreciated. (Tried searching forums for thump/thud/jerk/jolt with no success.. I guess it is a litttle difficult to describe!).
Thanks,
Tom

sounds like one othe engine/tranny mounts or bushings. There are several on this car. Find an independant audi mechanic in your area and have them take a look at it.
Good luck!

I have the same problem in my '99 A4-V6 Quattro.
It only happens when the car is from coasting to slight acceleration. It might be a torque converter problem (from locked up to not-lock up) and it happened in 5th and even 4th gear (I manually set the drive position to "4"). Not seems to be engine mount at all. The whole car is shake by the thump and not engine shaking the mount.
Any one has the same problem and got their's fixed ???
Thanks

thump
This is a transmission issue. If you have VAG com, you can monitor the engine RPM and the trans. input speed. You'll see that while the "thumping" occurs, the input speed is going from 0 to 570???? or what ever the RPM is, then back down again. Try this: keep some slight pressure on the gas pedal, to maintain your RPMs at about 900-1000 RPMs at all times when decelerating or idling. Does it still thump?
Also, is this a problem that gets worse as the vehicle/transmission begins to warm up?
I'm fighting the same issue with my 2000 A6 4.2, these transmission are notorious for wearing out the pressure relief bore. I have a spare, known good, valve body standing by this weekend. I'm going to install it Saturday morning. I'll let you know how it goes.
If it is the PR valve, you guys can remove yours and send them to me, I'll bore them over-sized and install the new PR spool and spring.
