First model-year for 2.7T is 1998.

What is the wonder all about here?

Thumbs up

Well I just did something I've never done before...and that's paid for advice. Saying that, it was propably the smartest $50 I'll ever spend.

This shop in Texas rebuilds these transmissions every day and are offering their welth of experiance and expertise for a mere $50 per call, when pre-paid via credit card.

I just talked to one of their rebuilders who told me right away what the issue with my A6 transmission is. Money very well spent

The 2.7 in the A6 didn't appear until 2000.

Steve from Freddie's Transmission (fixeuro.com) confirmed my symptoms:
1. Broken A-Drum
2. Transmission "thumps" when coasting to a stop
3. Long engagement (1-2 seconds) when putting in D or R
4. A loud "bang" when the transmission downshifts under power

All these are caused by the main pressure valve bore being worn out excessivaly. I took the part of my valve body off on Tuesday and sent it to them yesterday to have the bore reamed out oversized and install an oversized pressure valve.
Sure enough when I inspected my valve body the bore was in fact very warn in three locations.

I'll update when I get it back late next week.

this is interesting as I have those EXACT issues . especially the thump when coasting to a stop and the slipage when accelerating .. i notice it when doing a " california stop " really messes up the transmission and sometimes i get stuck for a second trying to accelerate away . don't suppose you have any pics of what to look for do you ? Does removing the valve body involve draining all the fluid ?

and if you want o M me with an idea of cost i would certainly appreciate it .. thanks

Theiceman, Same here. I have been researching the same issues for my car. 75,000. I have done fluid change and now my research has lead me to get a new valve body or have rebuild.

Jackson101 - I have notice the exact same things. Did you valve body fix the problem?

$600 for valve body is way better than $4,000 for trans.

Jbruns
looks like JR is having his valve body reworked ... I would be willing to spend money on this even if there was a chance of it being fixed .. ( 350,000km ) letss ee how JR makes out with effectiveness and cost . I am hoping he posts a couple of pics so I know what to look for.
