Since brand new, my A6 2.7T Tip has a strange behavior: the first shift from 1st top 2nd when car is cold only happens at 3K rpm. If I shift manually with tip, then next time it will shift in Auto normaly - also, from standstill, even if I hit hard on the gas and in Tip mode, the shift from 1st to 2nd will go in around 3500 rpm instead of waiting for me to shift it. Audi says it is normal, as the car was de-tuned for the american market...anyone out there has the same problem ?

 

not sure, but does it do it when the engine is finally warm? if no, then i think it revs higher when its cold to help warm up the car faster. i know thats the case with lots of other trannys, dont kno bout tips tho.

That should not be normal behavior, at least mine does not do that.
When the car is cold, it tends to hesitate shifting into 2nd until it hits around 3500rpms, unless I manually shift up - once car is warm, it shifts at any rpm range I want it to. I would have this checked out.

 

Tiptronic should NOT shift itself unless you are at redline.

 

Not true at all, everything posted here depends on whether you have a sport package or not.
If non-sport the tranny will shift from first to second automattically, there are 2 settings when you vag your chip,
1 setting will put it in sport mode so that the rpm's fly higher between shifts in D mode.
The other will make it so that your tranny does not shift unless you shift, that includes every gear, 1-5

That is actually a good observation - and I was not aware of that. It makes sense though. I do not have the sports package and mine will shift from 1-2 automatically in D mode. I also cannot downshift the TIP back into 1st - it will remain in second....

Mine actually doesnt shift until after redline, like 7500 i think.
